PAIN
When I try to forget,
you remind me I'm alive.
You speak
through the nerve endings in me,
insistent in your melody,
head ringing in caustic harmony.
You slip through my lips in long
ragged sighs,
your toenails tearing at the sides
of my cheeks as you drag your feet.
It’s hard to believe that I’ll
ever be free of your
nightly symphonies.
You don’t care who’s in first chair,
so long as they pull my strings.
